Phoenix

Phoenix Class 2025 – 2026

Autumn Term 2

Our inquiry unit for term 2 has been all about the Ancient Greeks and looking at the country of Greece. We have been busy enthusiastically learning about Ancient Greek culture, myths, battles, government and how Greece has changed over time. A favourite has been exploring all the different Gods and Goddesses and how the Greeks used them to explain the way the world works. We used this to inspire our own drama pieces and mythical writing and thinking of ways in which we could have an alternative explanation for things. We enjoyed looking at Greece and how it has changed throughout history, we compared modern day to ancient times so we could see the difference.

As well as learning all about the Greeks, we also helped to lead our Rememberance Day service by reading out the names of the soilders who came from our village of Lympsham. At the end of November, we celebrated Children in Need and Diabetes month with various activities and ways to raise money for these two wonderful charities.

We were also busy preparing and rehearsing for our Christmas nativity performances which included lots of lines and songs to learn. Our nativity was called ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ and talked about how our emotions can influence us and how we can be resillient. We related this to how Mary and Joseph would have been feeling during their journey to Bethlehem and the obstacles they had to overcome. Alongside the Griffins class, we showed great courage and resillience as we performed to our families and teachers, who were all really proud of us.

Autumn Term 1

Our inquiry unit for term 1 is all about where we are in the world. We have been exploring our local area , the history of Lympsham and the history of our school. We used lots of research and fieldwork skills to investigate and explore how people use their local areas now and how areas have changed through time. Within science, we were looking at states of matter and how they change from one to another. For our investigation and experiment we made slime. We had the best fun and made the biggest mess!

We also met our buddies and were so excited to find out who they were going to be. We spent an afternoon getting to know them, finding out their favourite things and teaching them some new games to play. We have shown great responsibility and a kind caring natrue towards our buddies!

Phoenix class 2024 – 2025

Goodbye

Sadly, the time has come to say good bye to our wonderful Y4 children. They have been an absolute joy to teach, brought much fun and we all wish them the best of luck as they head off to their new schools in September.

Summer Term

Phoenix have had a very busy summer term! The children went to visit their new schools, met their new teachers and made a few friends ready for September. We also went to Wells Cathedral for the moving up service along with our friends from East Brent, we used this time during the service to reflect upon changes and look forward to their next chapter. After this, we paid a visit to Bishops Palace where we had fun exploring and learning all about the history of the palace and roaming the grounds.

The children have really enjoyed the inquiry curriculum, this term we were looking at historical events and how they have influenced our modern day, democracy and how laws are made and finally learning about eco-systems.
We researched significant events in history and created posters to make a timeline and used this to explain the possible reasons why our society is the way it is today.
We held our own mini election in class where children created their own manifesto and created laws which they felt passionate about, we then all voted to see who the overall winner was, we had 3 joint winners!
The children researched and explored the Amazon rainforest, endangered animals and endangered plants. They used their new found knowledge to create a presentation explaining how and why a selection of animals and plants were at risk and how humans are and can protect them from harm.

Residential – Kilve Court

Wow! What a fantastic time we all had on residential at Kilve this year in May. The children chose all the activities they wanted to do beforehand including mountain biking, grass sledging, a disco, climbing wall and rifle shooting. They had a huge amount of fun and really pulled together as a team, they showed incredible determination and confidence and thoroughly enjoyed the food! Well done Phoenix, you were amazing!

Fundraising event

For an action linked to our unit 2 inquiry of natural processes, the children were inspired by a book called The Last Bear. From this, the children wanted to help support the needs of endangered polar bears affected by melting ice caps due to climate change. They created a fundraising event and made crafts and cakes to sell to Lympsham families. In total, they raised a huge £206 which enabled us to adopt a polar bear and donate money to Climate Recovery Fund and Greenpeace.

Cross Stitch – DT

Linked to our inquiry through geography, we designed and created our own river inspired cross stitch. To start with, many of us found this new skill of sewing a little challenging but we persevered and with determination quickly grasped it. As a class we created beautiful pictures following our own patterns. We are very proud of our work!

Run Pudsey

For children in need this year, we took part in Run Pudsey which was to see how many laps of the tennis courts we could do within a 10 minute time frame to raise money for this wonderful charity.

Debate

To finish off our unit 1 inquiry of Living Things, the children split into groups and prepared a debate on whether humans affect climate change or if it is linked to natural processes. They enjoyed sharing their research and points of view, finally concluding that humans do have an impact.

Collective Worship

When it was our turn to lead collective worship, we decided to share with the other classes what we thought made a good citizen within our school and how we can be our best selves.

Meeting our buddies!

We have all been very excited to see who our buddies from Unicorns class will be.
