*Ready, Steady, Grow!*

February 2025

Our inquiry for this term is connected with plants and growing. We will also be looking at the U.K. as part of our Geography work. We are looking forward to some visits to Comple Copse and observing the signs of Spring.

4th March 2025 – Visit to Comple Copse

We spotted signs of Spring on our walk to Comple Copse. We also observed different plants beginning to grow. Next time we visit we will see how things have changed.

In Art we have been looking at the painting ‘Flowers in a Vase’ by Jan Davidsz de Heem. We used sketchbooks to sketch the shapes in the painting. We also used watercolours to experiment with colour mixing.

*Big Ideas*

January 2025

Welcome back! We hope you had a good break.

We are looking forward to another exciting term of learning in Dragons Class. Our Inquiry is called Big Ideas and we are focusing on the topic of flight. We will be learning about the first aeroplane flight and about some famous people connected with this theme.

February 4th 2025 – Aerospace Visit

We had a fantastic time at the Aerospace Museum in Bristol. We had a workshop where we learnt about some famous aviators and astronauts including Amelia Earhart, Bessie Coleman, Valentina Tereshkova and Tim Peake. We also made our own paper concordes.

We enjoyed looking around the museum at different types of aircraft and especially loved going inside concorde! We learnt that concorde’s first flight was in 1969 and that it flew at twice the speed of sound.

January 24th 2025

This week we have led a collective worship all about our Inquiry, Big Ideas. We told the school some facts about Amelia Earhart and Bessie Coleman and their amazing achievements in the world of aviation.

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from an actual pilot! Mr Kynaston told us about how he became a pilot and the different places he has flown to around the world. We asked lots of questions and now have a few budding pilots among us!.

*Looking Back*

We have been learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and what kind of nurses they were. We have learnt about the challenges they faced and how they overcame these.

We did some hotseating where one of us pretended to be Mary Seacole. Then we asked Mary some questions such as:

“How did you feel when you were not allowed to go to the Crimean War?”

“Why did you decide to go on your own?”

“Did you feel scared?”

We have been learning about the five senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

We have explored the senses of smell and taste.

Exploring our senses

We have been exploring sound by listening to and playing different percussion instruments.
